Videocon Plans to Buy Motorola’s Mobile Ferm

Videocon

Motorola will split into two companies, one making mobile devices and the other making network infrastructure, the company announced last month. After the split, which is expected to happen next year, the companies will operate separately and be publicly traded, Motorola said.
Videocon Industries, a large Indian vendor of consumer electronics equipment and home appliances, has expressed an interest in bidding for Motorola’s mobile handset business.

The Videocon board is meeting Wednesday to discuss its acquisition strategy, an informed source said.

Videocon is interested in buying Motorola’s handset business and hopes to sell the mobile phones through its consumer durables retail chain in India, Videocon Group chairman Venugopal Dhoot told Indian newspapers on Wednesday.

The company also plans to enter the mobile services market in India, building its own GSM (Global System for Mobile Communications) network.

There’s still room for growth in the Indian mobile market, which has been adding more than 8 million mobile subscribers a month. The total number of mobile subscribers in the country was 251 million at the end of February, according to the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) in Delhi.

Videocon could transfer Motorola’s manufacturing facility to India to take advantage of India’s lower costs, Dhoot told the Business Standard.

Indian companies that were initially focused on the domestic market have recently shown interest in buying companies that help them acquire new brands and markets abroad. India’s Tata Group company, Tata Motors announced last month that it was acquiring the Jaguar and Land Rover brands from Ford.

PWNED iPhone 2.0 bootloader hacking tool by Next week

 Iphone

The iPhone Dev Team have already hacked the 2.0 firmware, but Pwnage Tool Application releases sometime in the next week for Mac OS X 10.4.x, 10.5.x and Windows.

This tool takes iPhone hacking to the next level by patching the bootloader to let you load any firmware image you want — even images not signed by Apple. That means custom patched firmware can now be loaded directly from iTunes, which simplifies the jailbreaking / unlocking process tremendously, and also means that a patched version of the 2.0 firmware is coming soon. We’re putting the tool through its paces right now and we’ll have a hands-on with it (and the Dev Team’s patched 2.0 firmware) as soon as we get it all working, but check out some highlights after the break, and hit the read link for more info.

* The tool contains revised logos and icons.

* PwnageTool does NOT ship with any Apple licensed software, Intellectual Property, trademarks, logos or images.

Nokia N810 Internet Tablet – WiMAX Edition on April 1st

N810

There’s no official announcement yet but Nokia has again too early to be exact as we can probably guess that the new Nokia N810 Internet Tablet – WiMAX Edition will be announced at CTIA at Las Vegas on April 1st.

Eagle eyed itT member and owner of Internet Tablet School, Krisse found the new image and link (that is not yet active) over at the Nokia Tableteer site. Judging from the image, it looks like it’s an N810 copy but in black brushed aluminum, rather than blue. The previously reported BestBuy Nokia ad perhaps shows how the N810 – WiMAX Edition will actually look. No wonder they made a mistake… they’re both “N810’s.”

So be there in CTIA on April 1 (only) to cover what ever Internet Tablet news transpire. Stay tuned.
