Windows Vista SP1 RC Refresh 2 6001.18000 Released – Include WU Install Registry Code

Vista-sp1

Another refresh build of Windows Vista Service Pack 1 (SP1) Release Candidate (RC) Refresh 2 has been released, again to Microsoft Connect beta testers. Again, interested users can also use the registry hack to trick Windows Update to offer the latest version of SP1 RC Refresh 2 to your machine and install the SP1. SP1 RC Refresh 2 has the build version of 6001.18000.

Download Windows Vista SP1 RC Refresh 2 from WU.rar. Unpack the RAR archive and run the SP1_rcr2RK.cmd to add the required registry key into the system registry. If you have installed any previous SP1, uninstall it first. Here’s the brief steps to install the latest SP1 RC Refresh 6001.18000.

Uninstall Windows Vista SP1 RC Refresh v.744 or any other beta version if installed. There’re reports saying that the SP1 RC can be upgraded without uninstalling first, but try at your own risk.
Run SP1_rcr2RK.cmd from Windows Vista SP1 RC Refresh 2 from WU.rar.
Check for updates in Windows Update.
Install all pre-requisite updates for SP1, namely Update for Windows (KB938371) and Update for Windows (KB935509), with the later for Vista Ultimate and Enterprise edition only.
Reboot the computer.
Check for updates in Windows Update again after waiting for several minutes.
Install Update for Windows (KB937287_6001.1800), the “installer” code for SP1.
Wait for several minutes, and check for updates in WU again.
Windows Vista Service Pack 1 (KB936330) will be shown as available. Install accordingly.
Apparently, in the EULA of this version of SP1, it stated that the release is RTL version. After installing SP1 RC Refresh 2, system properties will only show “Service Pack 1″ without any build version, and there is no longer any “Evaluation Copy” watermark in the bottom right corner of desktop. And probably there is no expiry date to this version of test build too, though you won’t want to keep it after final version been released.

There are many unofficial rumors on the possible release date of RTM gold version of Vista SP1, from the earliest first week of February, 15th or 16th February, or the later the same date with official launch of Windows Server 2008. But one thing is for sure, Microsoft is still committed to release Vista SP1 in the first quarter of 2008.

Vudu’s HD Set Top Box Price Drop to Compete with Apple TV

Vudu

Vudu has just announced the price slash of its famous HD (High Definition) video set top box by 25 percent this week due to competitive market situation. The new price of around $295, is quite a significant adjustment from its original retail price of $399. This has made it more competitive to what Apple TV has offered to consumers so far. The new price will be effective immediately and for those that have just bought the set top box from Vudu last month (within 30 days of the announcement), there will be a $100 rebate voucher given to compensate the price difference.

The price slash is a direct response to recent Steve’s announcement with new firmware upgrade that able to pack more services into its Apple TV set top box. Also, Apple TV price has been gone down to as low as $229 (for 40GB version) from $299 previously. So, in order to stay competitive, there is almost no choice for Vudu to take this action immediately. In terms of performance, Apple TV seems to be able to do more by having the capability to access YouTube, the famous sharing website and share the media contents by streaming directly to your digital TV.

This is a good news to everyone especially for those that are planning to get one recently. And even if you don’t have plan to get one, it could be a right time to consider adding this powerful gadget in your digital home.

Samsung Launches Two Fashion Phones

Samsung-1Samsung L310

Ladies, look out. Samsung has just launched two new fashion phones targeted at the girl-on-the-go who wants to look good with her gadgets. Yes, the L310 and L320 clamshell phones sure seem like fashion statements for the fashion conscious woman.
Samsung-2 Samsung L320

The L310 clamshell, available in black and gold, is a tri-band handset with a 1.8 inch TFT display that has resolution of 176 x 220 pixels. What makes it so feminine (aside form the fact that it simply looks like something a girl would buy), are the applications that Samsung has thoughtfully incorporated into the device – including apps that assist in shopping and counting calories. It’s a very compact handset (with dimensions of 93.4 x 44 x 17.9 mm) and is equipped with Bluetooth and USB 2.0. It has a 2 megapixel camera and microSD card slot, and supports GPRS and EDGE for internet connectivity.

Samsung’s second fashion phone is the L320, also a clamshell. But unlike the square-edged L310, the L320 has a curvier look. It has an external OLED display and a 1.9 inch internal TFT LCD with a resolution of 176 x 220 pixels. Features include Bluetooth and USB connectivity as well as GPRS and EDGE for net connectivity. It comes with a microSD slot for external memory and a 2 megapixel camera.

Both phones will be out in February – but only in select markets. The L310 is priced approximately Rs 13,846 (€240) and the L320 will cost around Rs 12,695 (€220). There’s no official word yet whether they’ll hit the stores here. Stay Tuned.

Yamaha Launches A2DP Bluetooth Speaker

Yamaha

Yamaha has launched a 10 watt, A2DP-compatible, Bluetooth speaker called the NX-B02. The device is designed to handle output from Bluetooth-compatible PCs, PDAs, and of course your mobile phone. In case that wasn’t enough, it’s also equipped with a 3.5mm line-in socket, so you can easily connect your MP3 player or PMP.

The NX-B02 has dual 4.5cm (1-3/4-inch) full range speakers, and each speaker has an SR-Bass (Swing Radiator Bass) diaphragm. This diaphragm moves by the vibration of the main diaphragm and efficiently increases bass energy, producing larger sound pressure levels for deeper and stronger bass.

The speaker can be used as a portable device as it runs on four AA batteries. According to Yamaha, battery life is about four hours with alkaline batteries and seven hours with NiMH batteries. You can also choose to run it on the AC adaptor that comes with the package.

The NX-B02 is priced at Rs 7,883 ($199.95).

New Cyber-shot Mobile with GPS

Gps-mob

We’ve heard rumors (and seen some live images on a China-based website) that hint at a new Sony Ericsson handset, presumably a Cyber-shot K-Series mobile. From the images it would seem this will have a 3 megapixel auto-focus camera with a dual-LED flash – if it were indeed the prototype for a SE Cyber-shot mobile, that is.

According to some of the rumors doing the rounds, this handset should also have an integrated GPS receiver. There’s no word, obviously, on a release date or pricing, nor too much dope on the actual specs. Of course, the rumors need to be confirmed as well.

Sony Launches 5 New W-Series Cyber-shots

Sony

Sony’s Cyber-shot W-Series has gained a new look for 2008, with five new cameras that team HD image quality with easy-to-use features. Available in a choice of colors, the new W-Series boasts clean lines and contemporary looks. Inside the all-aluminum case, all five models come with the latest Sony technology.

The range is topped by the 10.1 megapixel Cyber-shot W170 that sports an extra-large, bright 2.7-inch Clear Photo LCD. There’s also a Carl Zeiss wide angle lens with 5x optical zoom. Thanks to its minimum focal length of 28mm (35mm equivalent), zooming out to wide angle lets you squeeze in more of landscapes and group photos without cropping the subject.

The W170 now features Intelligent Scene Recognition that takes the guesswork out of selecting the right camera settings in a range of common shooting situations. In Advanced mode, the camera takes two shots – one with standard automatic settings and the other with optimized settings – allowing you to pick your favorite. Other key features include Smile Shutter, Face Detection and Super Steady Shot optical image stabilization for clearer low-light shooting.

With a resolution of 8.1 effective megapixels, the W150 has the same 2.7-inch Clear Photo LCD as the flagship W170. It also features a 5x zoom Carl Zeiss wide-angle lens, plus Smile Shutter, Face Detection, Super Steady Shot, and Intelligent Scene Recognition.

The W130 also boasts 8.1 effective megapixel resolution, along with Smile Shutter, Face Detection, Super SteadyShot and a 4x Carl Zeiss optical zoom lens. The W120 shares similar specifications but with a resolution of 7.2 effective megapixels.

The entry-level W110 offers 7.2 effective megapixel resolution plus 4x optical zoom, Smile Shutter and Face Detection.

The W120 will be available for about $200 in pink, blue, black and silver in March 2008. The W130 will be offered in pink, black and silver for about $230 the same month. The W150 model will hit retail in sophisticated champagne, red, black and silver for about $250 in April. The DSC-W170 model will also be available around the same time in the same colors for about $300.

Samsung launches new flagship DSLR – the GX20

DSLR

Samsung has today launched the 14.6 mega-pixel GX-20 DSLR.

This is the first model from the company to be built around its own CMOS sensor, which is 23.5×15.7mm (APS-C sized) and has been designed and built by Samsung in Korea.

The camera, which is expected to be priced around £699.99 (with an 18-55mm lens), also boasts an Enhanced Digital Filter which the manufacturer says “allows a greater dynamic range of exposures and can also be used to add various effects or compensate for missing pixels after taking a picture”.

Coupled with this, is a wide view 2.7 inch TFT LCD (delivering 230k pixel resolution) and live view through the optical viewfinder or LCD display.

To prevent image blur, the camera offers built-in Optical Picture Stabilisation (OPS) technology, which means it shifts the CCD to counter any movement of the camera’s body.

Samsung claims that its new flagship is “robust enough” for taking quality pictures in wet, sandy or dusty conditions. It has 72 water-resistant and anti-dusting body seals and a Dual Dust Removal System for removing particles from the sensor.

Additional shooting features include a one-touch RAW button, for switching from JPEG to RAW capture. RAW files can be checked on the LCD and then be directly converted to JPEG format via the built-in converter.

The GX-20 also offers continuous shooting at 3 fps, and an X sync. terminal for external Flash.

This new model is said to be aimed squarely at the prosumer market.

Robert King, commercial director of Samsung Cameras explains: “With the launch of the GX-20 DSLR, Samsung has a full digital camera line-up ranging from convergent compact digital cameras through to high-end fully-featured digital SLRs.

“This product is the start of an exciting DSLR range for Samsung as it is our first DSLR with our own manufactured CMOS sensor. This is a very important step for Samsung which is set to support our expansion in this competitive product sector.”
